Meet the Maker

Erin, the maker behind Celestial Lily

Hi, I'm Erin - the face behind Celestial Lily.

I started creating macrame in 2024 while preparing some personal touches for my wedding, and somewhere between learning my first knots on YouTube and making an entire wedding arch backdrop, I completely fell in love with the craft.

What began as a spontaneous project of love quickly became something much bigger - a business built around creating meaningful, handmade pieces for other people and their homes.

Why “Celestial Lily”?

The name Celestial Lily comes from a mix of the things that inspire both me and my work.

I've always loved astronomy - I was even one of only five students in my school year to take an Astronomy GCSE, thanks to an amazing teacher who ran it as extra unpaid work. At the same time, nature has always been a huge part of my life - I've spent most of my life living in the countryside and love gardening, especially growing fruit and vegetables. For these reasons, you'll see a lot of celestial and nature elements in my work.

“Lily” also comes from a childhood nickname my parents gave me: “Wee Lily”. We honestly have no idea where it came from, but somehow it stuck. My Mum was the one who suggested “Celestial Lily” and it felt right from the moment I heard it.

How It All Started

At the time that I discovered macrame, I was working as a data scientist. While I enjoyed parts of it, my passion was fading and I slowly realised that creating things with my hands brought me far more joy than sitting behind a screen ever did. My job brought me anxiety and stress, whereas macrame had a grounding effect on me.

After opening my Etsy shop in August 2024, life unexpectedly pushed me further in that direction when the company I worked for closed later that year. With the support of my lovely husband Dillon, I decided not to return to data science and instead put my energy into growing Celestial Lily full-time.

Going from the world of tech to arts and crafts was a huge change - and one of the best decisions I've ever made.

My Style & Products

A selection of Celestial Lily macrame products

My work is rooted in a love of nature, astronomy, and the quiet comfort of a cosy home, with earthy textures, celestial details, and the occasional dark twist courtesy of my husband's love of all things spooky and Halloween (which definitely explains some of the black and purple tones that sneak into my work).

I started out mostly creating dreamcatchers, but over time my work evolved into more practical and everyday pieces like water bottle holders, keyrings, home decor, and custom wall hangings.

I love letting my creativity evolve naturally, and I'm always open to trying new ideas and creating custom pieces that feel personal to the people ordering them.

Most items are made to order with lots of colour and mix-and-match options so that every piece feels a little more unique.

Thoughtful Materials

I always try to make Celestial Lily as environmentally friendly as I can. I mainly work with natural cotton cord and often incorporate wood and natural elements into my pieces, including foraged materials. I also aim to use recyclable, reused, or compostable packaging wherever possible.

A Little More About Me

When I'm not knotting, you'll usually find me hanging out at home with my husband Dillon, our cats Aries and Pisces, and our Rottweiler Pumpkin.

I'm a huge homebody and honestly happiest spending quiet time at home gaming, reading, or watching sitcoms and movies with Dillon. And despite being an incredibly picky eater as a kid, I somehow grew into a massive foodie and LOVE cooking, especially when it comes to Mexican food - my faves are burritos and birria tacos.
